Lately, the winter session of Parliament has been adjourned sine die or concluded. This winter session of the Parliament was very chaotic. Amidst all the uproar some important legislations were passed in this session. Here is the list:
- The Agricultural Laws Repeal Bill, 2021:
After a long protest of the farmers, the following three agricultural laws were repealed by introducing a bill. The repealed bills included Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Act, 2020; Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020
- Dam Safety Bill, 2021
This bill provides for the monitoring, inspection, operation and maintenance of specified dams for the prevention of disasters related to dam failure. It also seeks to provide institutional mechanism to ensure their safe functioning and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
- The Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill, 2021:
It provides for regulation and supervision of assisted reproductive technology clinics and assisted reproductive technology banks, prevention of abuse, safe and ethical practice of assisted reproductive technology services. It also envisaged the establishment of National Boards, State Boards and National Registry.
- The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2021:
This legislation provides for the regulation of surrogacy services in the country. It prevents potential exploitation of surrogate mothers and protects the rights of children born through surrogacy.
- The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Amendment Bill, 2021:
This bill Provides clarity that the institutions established under the National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Act shall be institutions of national importance. It also established a central body, called the Council, to ensure coordinated development of medicinal education and research and maintenance of standards, etc.
- The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2021:
The Bill will replace an ordinance promulgated earlier this year (2021) to correct a drafting error in Section 27A of the Act.
- The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021:
The bill provides for the linking of voter list data with the Aadhaar ecosystem to prevent the threat of multiple nominations of the same person at different locations.
- The Delhi Special Police Establishment (Amendment) Bill, 2021:
The bill provides for extension of the term of the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation by one year at a time in the public interest, until a total of five years, including the period mentioned in the initial appointment, are completed.
- The Central Vigilance Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2021:
It provides for extension of the term of Director of Enforcement Directorate by one year at a time in public interest till the completion of five years in aggregate including the period mentioned in the initial appointment.
- The Judges of the High Court and Supreme Court (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2021:
The bill seeks to bring clarity as to whether judges of the Supreme Court and High Court are entitled to an additional quantum of pension or family pension on attaining a certain age.
