Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of SP and three-time chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, passed away on Monday. Since August 22, 82-year-old Mulayam Singh Yadav has been receiving care at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital. He was moved from the intensive care unit (ICU) to the critical care unit (CCU) on October 2 as his condition worsened. His low blood pressure, shortness of breath, and tightness in his chest are just a few of the major health issues he has recently encountered. He received life-saving medication and was put on a ventilator.
Politicians across the nation including Prime Minister are condoling. Three days of national mourning has been declared in Uttar Pradesh following the death of Samajwadi Party Patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav. There will be no major government events during this time. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deep condolences on the passing of Mulayam Singh Yadav and after speaking with Akhilesh Yadav by phone, he also announced that he would perform Netaji’s final rites with state honour.

Moulayam Singh Yadav’s early life:
Mulayam Singh Yadav was born on 22nd November 1939 to Murti Devi and Sughar Singh Yadav. He was born in Saifai village of Etawah district in Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh Yadav completed his primary education in Saifai.
After completing his primary and secondary education, Mulayam Singh Yadav enrolled at Karm Kshetra Post Graduate School in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Politics. Mulayam Singh Yadav moved to Agra for higher studies after completing his undergraduate degree at AK College, Shikohabad. He earned his Master’s degree from B.R. College in Agra.

In his lifetime, Mulayam Singh Yadav had two marriages. Malti Devi was Mulayam Singh Yadav’s first wife. When Akhilesh Yadav was born in 1973, she experienced medical issues that led to her entering a vegetative state. She died on May 27, 2003, following a protracted illness.
When Mulayam Singh Yadav was still wed to his first wife in the 1980s, he had a relationship with Sadhana Gupta. Prateek Yadav was the name of the boy Mulayam and Sadhana gave birth to in 1988. Before he was compelled to confess before the Supreme Court of India in a case concerning disproportionate property in February 2007, many were ignorant of his marriage to Sadhana Gupta.
Ratan Singh Yadav, Abhay Ram Yadav, Rajpal Singh Yadav, and Shivpal Singh Yadav are his four brothers.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was heavily influenced by the ideology of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. Since becoming interested in politics at the age of 15, he has had the opportunity to interact with individuals such as Karpoori Thakur, Janeshwar Mishra and Ram Sewak Yadav.
Kicked off career with Janta Dal-
In 1962, Mulayam was selected to serve as president of the student government at A.K. University in Shikohabad, Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam took involved in “Janata Dal” in 1960. In 1967, he was chosen to serve as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). From then he served 8 times as an MLA. Mulayam Singh Yadav was selected in 1982 to head the opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He served in this capacity until 1985.
Departed ways from Janta Dal-
In 1985, Janata Dal was split. “Krantikari Morcha” was created by Chandra Shekhar, Mulayam Singh Yadav and CPI.
In 1989, Mulayam assumed the position of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the first time. When VP Singh’s government lost confidence in November 1990, Yadav joined Chandra Shekhar’s Janata Dal (Socialist), and he held the position of Minister of Uttar Pradesh with the backing of Parliament and Janata Dal.
UP Parliamentary elections were held in June 1991 after the Congress Party withdrew its support in April and Mulayam Singh Yadav lost to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
From creation of Samajwadi Party (SP) to 3-time Chief Minister:

The Samajwadi Party was created in 1992 by Mulayam Singh Yadav. He ran and won the 1993 election for the Uttar Pradesh legislature in cooperation with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Mulayam Singh Yadav became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second time.
When Mulayam Singh Yadav became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in June 1998, Congress and Janata Dal agreed to cease their support for him.
Yadav won the 1996 general election in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri Lok Sabha district. He was named Union Defense Minister in the United Front coalition administration. Following the breakdown of the coalition government in 1998, he was selected as the MP for the Sambhal constituency.
When Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government collapsed in 1999, Mulayam Singh Yadav ran for elections in Sambhal and Kannauj constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
Following the 2003 UP Assembly elections, the SP emerged victorious in the state and Mulayam Singh Yadav was chosen to lead it as a Chief Minister. After one term, Mayawati became Chief minister when the BSP won the 2007 election. In 2012, the Samajwadi party again secured the majority of seats in Assembly but this time Mulayam resigned to let his son, Akhilesh Yadav, take over as Chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
He contested the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha seat of Azamgarh and Mainpuri in the 2014 general election. He was elected to both seats, but he resigned from the Mainpuri seat. He ran for Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 general election and won. Currently, he was a Member of Parliament from the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency.
