Unarguably the most coveted award in the music industry is Grammy. Every singer in the world yearns for this achievement. The award has always been a pride for the singer as well as the country to which the singer belongs. This year, India’s name was being highlighted at Grammys held in Las Vegas. New York-based Indian-American singer Falguni Shah has been honored with the Grammy Award in the Best Children’s Music Album category for ‘A Colorful World’. Popularly known as Falu, New York-based Indian-American singer Falguni Shah has been honored with the Grammy Award in the Best Children’s Album category for “A Colorful World”. The Mumbai-born singer-songwriter took to the social media platform Instagram to thank Grammy-organizing Recording Academy for the award. Sharing pictures from the award ceremony, Shah wrote,
“I have no words to describe today’s magic. What an honor to perform for the opening number of the GRAMMY Premiere Ceremony, and then take home a statue on behalf of all the incredible people who worked on A Colorful World.”
Who is Falguni Shah?
Falguni, who is in her early 40s, was born in Mumbai and moved to the USA in the 2000s. Shah was inclined towards music from an early age and got trained in Hindustani Classical music in the Jaipur tradition and in the Benares style of thumri under Kaumudi Munshi and semi-classical music from Uday Mazumdar. Flaguni later kept learning under the late sarangi/vocal master Ustad Sultan Khan.
Falu lives in New York and is known for her fusions. She brings an amalgamation of western and Indian classical music by mixing Indian tunes with contemporary western sound.

Before bourgeoning her career on foreign soil, she started in Mumbai. Later, when she moved to the USA, she did many projects and took a popular stage name Falu.
Falguni has worked with artists like AR Rahman for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, Yo-Yo Ma for ‘The Silk Road Project’, Philip Glass, and Wycliffe Jean. She has performed in the White House alongside AR Rehman.
Falu has also been nominated in the Grammy for the Children’s Music Album category in the past. She is the only Indian-origin woman to have been nominated for Grammy Awards twice. Earlier, her album Falu’s Bazaar was nominated in the 2018 edition of the Grammy Awards. However, this year she has won the Grammy Award for the first time.
In an interview, Falguni revealed that she is currently working on two projects. The first of them is ‘American Patch Works for Teds’ and the second is EDM (Electric Dance Music) in both of these albums you’ll get the flavor of Falu’s magic.
In ‘American Patch Works for Teds’, Falguni has given Indian classical touch to the old folk songs of America, whereas in ‘EDM’ she has given American music with folk music associated with different cultures of India, such as Gujarati, Maharashtrian, Rajasthani.
